The Lodge

The first sketch
of the Feather River Inn lodge by architect Frederic C. Whitton
was modest in design. Featuring a long log structure, rectangular
forms and spaces marked off for a large lobby, a larger dining
room and kitchen, and rows of bedrooms on the second floor. The
original plans were rather conservative and arguably crude.
The original
plan
of the lodge hardly depicts what is seen in old postcards
and photographs. The lodge eventually transformed into a rustic
mountain retreat with great hearths; a grand lobby and an even
grander dining room. It was a spectacular
lodge that left a lasting impression for every adventurous traveler.
